Leksak Lady

– a pattern from Yarn-Madness

Available languages: English, Swedish

Sizes available: XS/S/M/L1 (L2/XL/2X/3X)

Ravelry page

6 USD / 39 SEK :

”Leksak”, meaning ”toy” in Swedish, is a pullover previously available in baby and child sizes. The tunic is now also available in adult sizes – let me introduce you to Leksak Lady!

The whole garment, with an exception for the sleeves, is worked back and forth on the needles, but still manages to be completely seamless. The body is worked from the top down, which makes it easy to adapt to fit as you go. It is then finished off with an unusual and decorative take on the front panel, which is worked sideways.

3/4 sleeves adds warmth without getting in the way, and an optional crochet edging makes it possible to add an extra delicate touch to your garment. A perfect, versatile and playful addition to your wardrobe!

Sizes

XS/S/M/L1 (L2/XL/2X/3X)

Actual bust circumference of garment:
32/35/37/40 (43/46/49/51) inches, or 80/88/93/100 (108/115/123/128) cm
Some negative ease is recommended – choose a size that is slightly smaller than your own bust circumference.

Required materials:

Worsted weight yarn; approximately
1000/1060/1120/1200 (1300/1400/1500/1600) yards, or 920/970/1020/1100 (1200/1280/1380/1470) meters
Yardage is estimated for the crochet edging option – garter edgings will require less yardage. Please note that yardage can vary a lot between knitters, depending on yarn and gauge.

Not enough yarn? Check out this project for some tips on making a scrap yarn version!

5.5 mm (US 9) circular needle, or size to match gauge
Same size double pointed needles, if not knitting sleeves with magic loop or short circular
Needle for weaving in ends
4 stitch markers
Crochet hook, slightly smaller than gauge needles (optional for crochet edgings)

Required skills:

CO and BO
Knit and purl
Basic increases and decreases
Picking up stitches
Short rows (not essential, but link to photo tutorial of an easy technique is provided)
Optional: Crochet edgings
A photo tutorial with step by step instructions for the crochet edging will be added to the pattern

I bought this pattern in the size for boys and girls. I love the tunic without the collar! I really want to make this for my granddaughter but I can not make sense of the directions. Is it all knitted on the circular needles? Do you have any tutorials for this ? Thank you!

      Hello Kathie!
I’ve just sent out an update with the following walkthrough! 🙂

      Pattern walkthrough:
The instructions given are for using two colors. If working in one color, ignore instructions about color changes.
The whole body, from yoke to bottom edging, is worked flat, back and forth on the needles. You start from the top, choosing to work the yoke either with or without the added collar. When finished with the body, you pick up sts for the garter stitch front, joining the two fronts together and also working this section back and forth on the needles. Finally, finish the garment off with sleeves worked in the round, and the optional crochet edging.

So, are the sleeves the only part worked in the round?
Is all of it knitted on the circular needles but not in the round?

        Thanks.

Precisely. You could use straight needles for the body, but need a circular for the front.

    Hi
I am working on the Leksak lady pattern now and am wondering if I have to do the short rows? If I don’t do them, what should I do instead? Thank you. I made the child pattern and it turned out great

Hello Josie! The short rows are absolutely not necessary, you can just skip them in this design. They do improve the fit a bit, though.

Wow, thank you so much for making the adult size of this! I’ve made the child size for my granddaughter several times and have been so envious of it! I can’t wait to get started on one of my own – I expect there will be several in the end because I love it so much. Thank you
